Primary Purpose:

Assist credit recovery teachers in the credit recovery lab implementing ARD committee recommended accommodations, modifications and interventions for special population students under the supervision of a certified special education teacher and/or ARD facilitator.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Associates degree or higher preferred
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate and/or demonstrated competency through a state or local assessment

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Possess skills to operate and work with computer
  • Proficient in MS office, Excel and googles
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required

Experience:

  • Some experience working with children

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  • Assist the credit recovery teacher ensure that special education students are using ARD committee recommended accommodations and/or modifications in the Edgenuity programs
  • Assist the credit recovery teacher with clerical responsibilities
  • Assist struggling readers to complete assignments 
  • Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
  • Help the credit recovery teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
  • Attend ARD meeting if invited by the ARD committee for students assigned courses in the credit recovery

 

Student Management

  • Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning
  • Assist with learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, assistive technology, and emotional needs
  • Work in collaboration with other faculty and staff to ensure effective communication and coordination of the needs of students with disability
  • Assist monitor students to ensure effective learning environment
  • Keep the credit recovery teacher informed of special needs or problems affecting the performance students

Other

  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Attend staff development as directed by the principal or director of Credit Recovery
  • Performance other duties as assigned

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
