Primary Purpose:

The Campus Transition Coordinator’s (CTC) primary responsibility is to provide services that form the planning for the individual student’s life after graduation.  Successful provision of these services ensures the transition planning in support of the mission, goals, and values of the Texans Can Academies.  The goal is to enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in their chosen postsecondary pathway:  workforce, college, university, or military service. 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Sciences or related fields or
  • Three years working experience with bachelor’s degree.
  • Texas Teachers Certification with Special Education Endorsement, required

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of federal laws and state requirements related to special education students, and programs.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of various handicapping conditions.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge to ensure full compliance of federal as well as state rules and regulations regarding: employment, child labor, wage and hour requirements, vocational rehabilitation, special education, and transition planning
  • Knowledge of the special education IEP and ARD planning process as it relates to transition.
  • Strong training skills in job coaching and job readiness programs
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google G Suite to create spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

 

Experience:

  • Three years of experience preferably working within vocational education, special education transition process or college and career readiness planning.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, plan and make independent decisions within the scope of job requirements and expectations.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure full compliance with Texas Education Agency State Performance Plan Indicators 13 and 14.
  • Conduct career interest and exploration inventories.
  • Participate in ARD/IEP meetings when information about vocational preparation will be discussed.
  • Determine and communicate post-secondary needs, goals, and objectives to students, and parents.
  • Develop and facilitate correct usage of a coordinated set of activities based on the student's assessments, needs, strengths, preferences, and interests, linking the activities to the student's current and post-secondary goals.
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop self-determination and self-advocacy skills.
  • Train students in appropriate work-related attitudes, habits, and behavior, dress, communication and travel skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment.
  • Facilitate transition connections, including college, career, workforce and military.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Maintain confidentiality of specific student information in accordance with federal and state rules and regulations and local district policies.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence in interactions with others; is respectful of co-workers; communicates and; promotes teamwork. Responds and acts appropriately in confrontational situations.
  • Completes accountability requirements in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

As assigned.

 

Work Schedule Requirements:

In addition to a normal assigned schedule, to complete the necessary job requirements and deadlines. May work nights and weekends as necessary.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 25 pounds). Work is performed in an office setting as well as out of doors when required to meet the demands of the student; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours. Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
